Join us for a long-weekend escape to Catalina’s famous “Airport in the Sky” (KAVX), July 3-6, 2026 — one of the most rewarding little flights in Southern California. Perched at 1,602 feet on a ridge above Avalon, the runway has a hump in the middle that hides the far end on rollout, so we’ll brief the approach and that one-way pattern beforehand and make the landing a non-event. Once we’re parked, it’s buffalo burgers at the airport cafe, a shuttle down to Avalon, and a couple of days of snorkeling, kayaking, and that golden-hour harbor view.
This one’s all about the trip, but we’ll fly it like instrument pilots — coastal marine layer planning, a Channel crossing with altitude and glide considerations, and a real-world look at when an IFR clearance beats scud-running. Spots fill fast for a holiday weekend, so sign up early and tell us your departure airport, aircraft type, and how many seats you have open so we can group up flights and share the adventure.
